I have found two pieces at the Literary Hub site which offer a study in contrasts in good writing. The first piece starts off well and lapses into a drunken morass of left-wing thinking...housing affordability or whatever, I lost interest as soon as she started banging her drum. So that's a no. The second is utterly charming - a fragile, delicate little thing which I did not have to read to the end to enjoy.

Of course it is, as we discussed the other day...people rarely want 'just the facts' any more, but analysis as well. You can find that in a newspaper, of course, but is usually buried under everything else. Apart from that, Google has been ripping off publishers for years...I can't get excited by it. Media outlets need to get beyond their dependence on casual traffic arriving via search inquiries, and start investing in their product to keep loyal readers close (preferably behind paywalls)

I often look at the list of links which AI has checked before giving me the answer. it depends on how curious I am (ie 'committed' as a reader, if u like) or whether it is merely a casual inquiry. If it's a casual inquiry, I want a quick answer and I am gone anyway.  

However, it a huge leap even for a committed reader to go from visiting an actual site provided by AI to subscribing, especially if I have come for just one story. That's where publishers have to be clever about how to engage the reader.  That has little to do with Ai and comes down to the publisher's smarts. I think they are too quick to blame Ai for their own lack of engagement and marketing skills.
